When picturing a "crumble," what comes to mind for most is probably a cobbler-like fruit dessert blanketed with a sweet, buttery crumble topping. This recipe is our savory spin on what is traditionally filed in the sweet category.

Sweet or savory, essential to a good crumble is plenty of butter, which this recipe has in spades. Almond flour adds a richness and depth to this crumble, while the versatility of the onion flavor allows this crumble shine on its own while being a wonderful addition to countless dishes, from soups to savory bakes.

Part 1:
Onion Crumble

Step 1

Begin by preparing your mise en place.


Step 2

Place all the dry ingredients in a large enough mixing bowl to mix all ingredients together.


Step 3

Add the melted butter and mix all ingredients together using a silicon spatula until you have a soft crumble texture.


Step 4

Place silicon mat on a large sheet tray, then spread the mixture out on top, pressing down gently with spatula.


Step 5

Heat oven to 300 degrees F and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, gently breaking up crumble every 5 minutes.


Step 6

Bake crumble until it turns golden brown. Cool and reserve, covered, until needed.
