There is nothing quite like picking garden-fresh tomatoes and jalapeƱos, firing them up with some fresh onions and garlic, and creating pure alchemy in a charred tomato salsa. Dip into this salsa with some crisp corn chips on game day or any occasion that calls for fresh homemade salsa (pretty much any occasion in our book!). This deliciously fresh salsa will be gone before you know it!

Part 1:
Charred Tomato Salsa
Step 1

Remove and discard the tomato stems.


Step 2

Cut the tomatoes in half.


Step 3

Place the tomatoes skin side up on a sheet tray lined with foil (for easy cleaning).


Step 4

Lay the red onion slices, the jalapeƱo (skin side up), and the peeled cloves of garlic on the tray.


Step 5

Place the tray of vegetables under a broiler until the vegetables begin to char and the skin blisters.


Step 6

Remove vegetables from under the broiler and allow to cool.


Step 7

Once they have cooled, remove the charred skins from the tomatoes and jalapeƱos.


Step 8

Chop the tomatoes and onion; finely mince the jalapeƱo and garlic.


Step 9

Combine all charred vegetables into a medium-sized bowl. Mix well.


Step 10

Season with olive oil, garlic salt, chopped cilantro, hot sauce and juice of a lime.


Step 11

Taste for seasoning and adjust as needed. Chill and serve.
